Why the Jerk & Beyond Caribbean Festival Is All You Need This Weekend
Food and fun not to miss in the Market as this brand new event bursts into the bank holiday with a taste of the Caribbean.
The sunshine is on order and we have great food, rum and fun guaranteed at this weekend’s brand new Jerk & Beyond Caribbean Festival. Here’s what you can expect from this exciting event brought to you by our very own Trinidadian restaurant and rum shop, Limin’.
Eat
Anyone who’s visited Limin’ and met owner Sham, knows he is passionate about celebrating the diversity of food from the Caribbean. That’s why Jerk & Beyond showcases the most exciting and innovative food from Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana.
Dishes not to miss include traditional Doubles (Curry Chickpeas and Spicy Flat Bread), Plantain Balls and Wings coated in Scotch Bonnet Mango Jam, from Limin’, Saltfish Fritters from Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen and Park Edge Bar and Kitchen’s Wild Garlic & Smoke Bonnett Mac & Cheese.
Drink
Head to Limin’ Rum Bar on the Market floor for a tour of Plantation’s multi-award winning artisan Caribbean rums from Barbados, Cuba, Panama, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.
Not sure where to start? Let Limin’ take you on a journey with their exclusive rum flights. Chose from Economy (£15), Business (£20) or First Class (£25) and prepare for take off, as you work your way through three hand-picked delicious rums, ranging from the rare (First Class) to some well-loved regular favourites (Economy).
You’ll also find refreshing rum punches, pineapple Daiquiri slushies, Mai Tais, barrel-aged Negronis and cocktails, served up alongside Caribbean beers and soft drinks including coconut water, sugarcane juice and premium ginger beer.
Enjoy
Just Vibez will be laying down the soundtrack of the festival, with dancers from Notting Hill Carnival’s Bacchanalia Masband.
Each day a family-friendly line-up will grace the Market stage, with each day celebrating a separate genre; Reggaeton on Saturday, Soca on Sunday and Reggae on bank holiday Monday.
As well as watching live performances, including Kathak (classical Indian dance) and carnival costume displays, kids will be captivated by a face-painting and a free play zone, up on our Mezzanine level.
Win
Have you got a thing for Wings? Get competitive on bank holiday Monday in the Market, with Jerk & Beyond’s Hot Wings Eating Competition. For a £5 sign up fee you’ll get a pile of seriously hot wings from Limin’ to publicly devour on stage. Beat your rivals to eat the lot and one lucky winner will receive a cash prize and plenty of glory.
