What to Eat in the Market Right Now / Part 3

Dishes not to miss at Old Spitalfields Market, including food from Dumpling Shack, Monty's Deli, Thousand Knives and Jiaba.

Hand-pulled Noodles at Dumpling Shack

With a lunchtime offering served from 11.30am – 5.30pm centred around their famous dumplings, Dumpling Shack are trialling a new early evening menu showcasing their amazing hand-pulled noodles. Swing by after work to enjoy delicious belt noodles, choosing from their Oxtail Noodles, Hot Oil Noodles (v), or these incredible Cumin Lamb Hand Pulled Noodles. These pieces of lamb neck marinated in cumin, chilli, garlic Sichuan peppercorns and soy, stir friend with their hand-pulled noodles, are 100% worth the wait.

Reuben at Monty’s Deli

Everything is good on Monty’s Deli’s small-but-perfectly-formed market menu (trust us, we have tried). But there’s a reason their Reuben Special is an Instagram and Time Out favourite. Featuring their homemade salt beef and pastrami, sandwiched between toasted light rye along with swiss cheese, mustard, sauerkraut and russian dressing, it’s a winner every time. The accompanying pickle is an essential addition. And if you have space for sides, we’re big fans of their homemade slaw and fries.

Chicken Yansuji at JiaBa

At first glance, the menu at JiaBa, inspired by the street food of Taipei, can feel almost wholly unfamiliar. In reality, it’s made up of regional takes on classic meat, rice and noodle dishes guaranteed to please. A good place to start is their Chicken Yansuji. This lightly spiced deep friend delight is our go to… like popcorn chicken for foodies in the know.

Pork Ramen at Thousand Knives

The food at Thousand Knives looks so good, the taste has alway got a lot of live up to. Fortunately, these guys (the team behind Dalston’s Brilliant Corners) know their Japanese flavours. The Pork Ramen is not only a head-turner, it’s also a serious treat to eat, featuring free-range pork shoulder, spring onion, egg, beans sprouts and noodles.
