What to Eat Right Now in the Market / Part 1
Dishes not to miss at Old Spitalfields Market, including food from Thousand Knives, Nilly's Turkish Kitchen, Lahpet and Flank London.
The Kitchens and food stalls in the Market are home to East London’s most exciting selection of street food. With a dizzying amount of choice, this month we’ll be taking you through some of our favourite dishes.
Chicken Katsu Curry at Thousand Knives
From the team behind Dalston’s Brilliant Corners, Thousand Knives create beautiful Japanese small plates in The Kitchens. But it’s their hearty Chicken Katsu Curry that tops the “Can I ask you where you got that?” list in the Market.
Beef Curry at Lahpet
We fall in love with a different Burmese-inspired Lahpet dish almost every week, but we have the feeling their new Beef Curry special might be a keeper. You’ll now find this special on the menu alongside their award-winning Tea Leaf Salad, Coconut Chicken Noodles and Vegan Shan Noodles.
Fried Chicken Sandwich at Flank London
Forget you Colonel Sanders, for us it’s all about the Flank Fried Chicken Sandwich, featuring Asian fried chicken, fiery chilli sambal sauce, kewpie garlic mayo and sweet dill pickles in a soft glazed bun. Flank’s seasonal menu and nose-to-tail approach sees this bun take its rightful place alongside their famous Beef Dumplings and Slow Brisket Naan.
Spinach and Feta Gozleme at Nilly’s Turkish Kitchen
Nilly and her team create these traditional vegetarian Turkish pancakes from small balls of dough before your eyes. Packed with spinach and feta and cooked to order on a hot griddle, their creation is captivating to watch. The good news is, these Gozleme taste as good as they look.
