Time to Rediscover the Neighbourhood

Looking for things to do in East London? Explore our "must do" events and experiences at Old Spitalfields Market.

The beginning of the year is traditionally a time to take stock, plan and re-engage with day to day life after the craziness of the holiday season. There’s plenty to inspire in the year ahead in our little corner of East London. Here’s our guide of where to start…

Plan a good old fashioned shopping trip

Grabbing things in your lunch break or online has an undeniable air of convenience, but there’s nothing quite like a proper shopping trip with friends to lift the spirits (if not the bank balance). Explore our beautiful new Diptyque store and imagine you’re in The Marais, or spend some serious time in the changing rooms of our new & Other Stories, with a whole skylight lit floor dedicated to trying on their wonderful wares at leisure.

Eat your way around the world

We all have our foodie favourites, but there’s a whole world waiting for you every lunchtime in The Kitchens and beyond at the Market. Becoming East London legends hasn’t seen Lahpet rest on their laurels, they are constantly updating their specials and have just added a new Beef Curry to their Burmese-inspired market menu. New Peruvian-inspired street food vendors Sangucheria’s colourful menu guarantees to brighten up your day, from their salsa criolla to their bavette steak. While our rum shop Limin’ is back with a bang on January 25th, with a new menu packed with Caribbean delights including Crab and Dumplings.

Shop our award-winning specialist food suppliers

Why not swap the supermarket in exchange for our hand-picked selection of specialist produce sellers? Visit award-winning family-run butchers,  The Butchery, who put welfare and quality at the very heart of their business stock an incredible selection of meat, including their own sausages, bacon and legendary sausage rolls. Head to the Brushfield Street corner of the Market for seasonal fruit and vegetables from Pink Grapefruit, for sale alongside their signature juices. Visit expert cheesemongers Abondance for the finest seasonal and specialist cheese and stop by BOTTLES for wine from Italy’s best sustainable, independent, organic & bio-dynamic producers.

Play tourist

Whether you are visiting for the first time, work locally, or live right here in Spitalfields, it’s always fascinating to take time to relish in the area’s rich history. Take a wander around the neighbourhood, download Discovering Britain’s free self-guided walks for inspiration, or spook yourself out on an infamous Jack The Ripper tour.
