People of the Market: Urban Makers’ Ilka & Julia

Meet the faces of the Market and find out what makes them tick. This time we speak to Ilka and Julia - the two creative minds behind our Urban Makers guest market.

"We believe in nurturing creative people with unique businesses, dreams and ideas."

Ilka & Julia

Julia,

Describe Old Spitalfields Market in five words?
Vibrant, buzzing, eclectic, colourful and exciting.

Fashion, food, Urban Makers, vinyl or flea market?
Not meaning to be biased but it has to be our Urban Makers Guest Market!

What was the last web page you looked at?
The Coppa Club – Tower Hill, as I was thinking of booking it for a night out.

What is your favourite Market food?
It’s got to be Dirty Bagel or the Dumpling Shack but I am desperate to try Humble Crumble for when I’m next feeling in an indulgent mood!

What has been your best Market find?
I love discovering new small businesses that I can give the opportunity to trade at the market. My two new favs are @kikicraftedwithlove and @camelerspiceco.

What’s on your bedside table?
My kindle, Elixir oil, some lip balm and a glass of water.

What song are you playing at the moment?
‘More than this’ by Roxy Music.

Ilka,

Describe Old Spitalfields Market in five words?
Historic, multicultural, vibrant, independent, friendly

Fashion, food, Urban Makers, vinyl or flea market?
Urban Makers of course.

What was the last web page you looked at?
Ankorstore.com – a lot of the designers we work with sell wholesale through this website, and we often make purchases for our Roman Road shop.

What is your favourite Market food?
That’s tough as they are all so good, but I can never go past the dumplings at Dumpling Shack.

What has been your best Market find?
A lovely pair of earrings from Little Dot Clay.

What’s on your bedside table?
Lip balm from The Creamerie and the novel How to stop time by  Matt Haig.

What song are you playing at the moment?
Chaise Lounge – by Wet Leg.
