People of the Market

Meet the faces of the Market and find out what makes them tick.

Jane Reed, Stallowner

Describe Old Spitalfields Market in five words

Eclectic, vibrant, friendly, cosmopolitan and inclusive.

Fashion, food, or flea market?

The flea market. I have been doing this for about 10 years and we source stuff all over the world. My stall is called Lady Jane’s Vintage Bandwagon.

What was the last web page you looked at?

eBay. I’m watching quite a few things but not as much as you might think. We want things that are quirky. I love the seventies, the style is so vibrant and bonkers. I remember my mum making all of our clothes.

What is your chosen tipple?

Wine. Any colour. A large one, please.

What has been your best market find?

I bought an Ossie Clark top for £15 once. I wasn’t labelled but I sold it for a lot more.

What is your go-to tip?

I would just say the range of stuff on offer. There’s a woman next to me who sells Breton tops, there’s taxidermy, there’s all sorts.

What’s on your bedside table?

I read books on my Kindle. The last one was by Stuart MacBride. He writes detective novels. I like books you can lose yourself in.

What song are you playing at the moment?

Mr Blue Sky by ELO. You can’t not love that song.
