How to Spend the Ultimate Family Day at FAM EAST this Sunday
Find out how to get the most out of East London's most exciting new family event.
With over 25 of the UK’s best small kids brands, creative workshops, interactive art and East London’s most tempting street food selection, making the most of our FAM EAST Sunday Social event is going to be all about pacing yourself.
Here’s how to make it the ultimate family outing…
If, like us, you’re here for the duration of the day, preparation is key. Grab a coffee and a croissant at Department of Coffee or Climpson & Sons, Chai from Chai Guys and juice for the kids from Pink Grapefruit.
Workshop it out
Upstairs on the Market Mezzanine, you’ll find FAM EAST’s wonderful workshop line up.
Those wanting to have a browse without their small people in tow can book them in to drop off session from Dot Kids, creating a David Bowie-inspired tote bag (10.15), or a painting channeling Klimt’s Tree of Life (12.30).
If you’d rather join the kids in getting creative, book in with Instagram favourites Young Double for their Kandinsky-inspired paper collage session (11.15) register to make a sparkly room with Sparklechild London (2.15pm), or make your own bespoke upcycled key rings with Rehandle (3.30pm).
Eat up a storm
Don’t worry if it’s raining, we have plenty of delicious food options right here in the Market.
If you’re dropping the kids at a workshop, you can leisurely explore all ten of our street food Kitchens before picking one (or two) to eat from, or take some proper time out with a grown-up lunch at Blixen, BOTTLES, or Wright Brothers. If you’re eating with the kids (let’s face it, for most of us, escape will be impossible), check out our Where to Eat with Kids at Old Spitalfields Market guide.
Shop til you drop (or the kids do)
On the Market floor we will have over 25 of the UK’s hottest babies, kids and family brands, ready to tempt you with fashion, accessories and interiors. You will find a full trader list when you clock ‘Read More’ on the event listing here. Plus, our Daily Market and retailers are all open as usual, so make sure you allow time to check out names including & Other Stories, American Vintage and Deciem.
Smalls and bigs from ages 0 – 100 can get involved on the Market Mezzanine, with our free drop-in interactive art workshop from Leap then Look.
Children and their parents can work together to respond to a series of creative prompts and instructions – “Make something as big as you. Make something that joins you together. Make something that makes a sound” – and add their artwork to the developing installation.
(Face) Paint the town
Just for FAM EAST the brilliant Faye’s Painting is returning to the Market with her unique art inspired face painting. Faye’s got so many mini fans there may be a queue, but trust us, it’s worth it.
If you’re worried a busy run of shopping, workshops and street food could leave you feeling a little in need of some TLC, our blow dry bar Duck and Dry are offering exclusive ‘Mummy & Me’ dry styling sessions (£50 if your child is over 11). Bring on the updos for two.
