The faces and characters that define East London’s cultural scene come together for a one-day market takeover with eighty stalls celebrating art, fashion, lifestyle, food, music and publishing. A celebration of the Market’s artistic heritage!
Dedicated to the makers of East London, the Voices East London Market Festival will support two East London charities: Spitalfields Crypt Trust, a charity supporting people recovering from addiction and the homeless; and Cardboard Citizens, which has made life-changing theatre with and for homeless people for more than twenty-five years.
Part exhibition, part retail pop-up, part performance, this is a chance for established as well as upcoming East London personalities – all of whom have been involved in the area’s eclectic creative history – to come together.
Co-curated by Maryam Eisler, photographer and author of recently published Voices East London and Mei-Hui Liu, founder of Secret Rendez-Vous who began her career at Old Spitalfields Market in the late 1990s.
Wednesday 13th December, 11 am – 9pm
Free Entry
In Voices: East London, Maryam Eisler reveals the area’s thriving kaleidoscope of visual geography by means of dynamic interviews and striking new photography, placing it among Europe’s pre-eminent ‘creative ghetto’ communities. Contributors include Johnny Woo and Gilbert and George.
Secret Rendez-Vous is a collection of events, connecting talented creatives in the East End through parties and fashion shows, established in 1998 after Mei-Hui Liu moved to London and found the area buzzing with an exclusive creative tribe of artists, musicians, designers and inspirational characters from all walks of life.
